We at the Jefferson Muslim Association would love to help you get married and fulfill a great Sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad (SAW). Here are the steps that you need to take to have your marriage taken care of at the Jefferson Muslim Association. Please follow the instructions provided below.
Make an appointment with the Imam and discuss your plans.
Download the Marriage Request Application, fill all fields and submit to the Imam.
Obtain a marriage license from the Jefferson Parish Clerk of Court or your respective parish. (Please see details below.)
The bride and groom must mutually agree on a specific amount as Mahr (dowry)
The presence of two Muslim male witnesses for the groom and a guardian (wali) for the bride are required.
The bride’s father is considered to be the guardian (wali) of the bride by default. In the absence of the father, the Imam will guide the future couple to possible alternatives depending on circumstances.
