Started by a handful of concerned sisters, the Sunday school has been in operation since 1989 starting with about 60 students. Today by the help of Allah, there are over 160 students attending from all over the greater New Orleans area including from Slidell all the way to Thibodaux and Gramercy.
Duration: The Sunday school operates in two semesters – Spring (Jan-May) and fall (Sep- Dec)
Staff: The program is staffed with about 20 volunteering sisters, many with years of experience with our Sunday school and who put their heart and soul into enriching our students
Hours: Sundays from 9:45 AM – 1:45 PM
Locations: Due to the increased enrollment, this program is spread over two locations
- Masjid Abu Bakr (4425 David Drive. Metairie, LA 70003) caters to the older students enrolled in levels 8 and up
- Old Islamic School building just a few blocks away (3324 Maine Ave. Kenner, LA 70065) serves to our younger crowd enrolled in levels 7 and below
Ages: Boys, ages 5 through 12 & girls, ages 5 and up
Fees: $150.00 per semester plus the cost for materials
Curriculum: Quran, Tajweed, Memorization, Islamic Studies (Levels 1-12), Reading and writing Arabic
